A New Year and More of the Same!

Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the holidays. As the studio staff begins to return to work in this new year, a decision has been made to keep going in the same manner that we have before. A few months ago, we hinted at some major changes coming in 2025. Like what happens too often in life and with plans, things sometimes go differently. This is one of those occasions. So, what does all of this really mean?

For starters, the studio will be releasing a brand-new tabletop RPG as is our custom during an odd numbered year. What has changed is that it will not be the big overhaul in a new game system that we originally were hoping to reveal. The game that will launch this fall will be using the same D20/D6 system that we have used since our first game release in 2017. Compatibility will continue to be a thing, meaning every game can be played with any other game like, for example, True Agenda and Grid, or Chronofields and Primal Spirit. The game coming later this year will be the last using the existing system.

For 2026, we will release our last planned expansions for two other games, Grid and Primal Spirit. These two expansions were already in the works and so we will complete them. Since True Agenda and Chronofields got their final expansions last year, we felt it only right to finish the others. This will then clear the way for the big reveal in 2027. After much deliberation and thought, it felt better to launch the rebrand and new system on the 10-year business anniversary. It also made more sense than trying to release expansions for a previous game system while hyping the new one. In the long run, this will feel more fulfilling and wrap up the old system in a more defined way.

So that’s the three-year plan for the business - a new game this year, two expansions next year, and then a brand-new direction in 2027! As always, stay tuned here in the coming months for more news about the upcoming game, including all the new features that will be added to the existing framework. We are excited to be able to get this game released. Also keep checking back here and across social media for other news throughout the year.

Another Release Day!

We are excited to announce that the studio was able to complete and release one more title this year! Our second offering for our 5E Adventures line sees a pay what you want (PDF) adventure, also available in print, for three to five characters of 3rd level available on Drive Thru RPG here. This also can be found on our products page, but only in print format. We were fortunate enough to get the map for this adventure custom designed by Ashtagon!

This wraps up the year for us here at the studio, but that does not mean we are not looking ahead to next year and beyond. We had some exciting announcements planned just after the New Year, but now we might have to reevaluate what we would like to accomplish. Whichever way we end up going, we still have news to share in the coming months. For now, we hope everyone can enjoy the season in your favorite way and have a good start to the coming year. As always, follow us here and across social media for the latest news.

Proofs are Back!

You read that right. We received the proofs today for our last release this year! This one was hinted at previously and everyone at the studio came together to make it work. Our latest 5E adventure will release in the coming days for both PDF and print formats. Like the one we released a few years back, this one will be pay what you want for the PDF copy. We learned a lot from the first one of these the studio created, and the newest one has some changes based on feedback and reviews we received. We look forward to seeing what everyone thinks about this latest adventure. As always, follow us here and across social media for the latest news.

Resistance Day!

At long last, the fourth, and likely final, full expansion for True Agenda has released both here and over at Drive Thru! Much like the Chronofields expansion the studio released earlier this year, this expansion is a long time coming as we spoke about in previous news blogs. It is nice to finally have it out for everyone to get their hands on and hopefully it was worth the wait! Also, we want to announce Resistance is included in the True Agenda bundle deal that includes all the titles for this game for only $20! Lastly, we also want to remind everyone who might not know that if you check out our YouTube page, the main rulebook for True Agenda in PDF format is available with the coupon there for only one dollar through the rest of 2024!

Proofs Back Round Two!

We received the latest proof today and the issues we had originally spotted on the cover have been fixed. Nothing else was found to be incorrect on the first one so everything is now good to go for the upcoming November release of the fourth full expansion for True Agenda!

In other news, the writing and art for the upcoming 5E Adventure was completed and now the commissioned map to be used has been submitted for review. The editing will begin in the coming week or so and we are still on track for a December release of this pay-what-you-want title.

Work has also been going on with our new game system to be released in 2025. Proofs of some of the custom elements, including the dice, have come back and everyone at the studio is excited to see the progress so far! We are looking to start initial playtesting before the end of this year. While we still are not quite ready for a formal announcement of this game system, we are looking to start the initial teaser reveals in the coming month or so. As always, keep checking back here and across social media for more information.

Video Creation and Editing!

While the studio continues to gear up for the changes coming in 2025, one of the things we found was that we needed to start creating videos. Rather than hire this out, we began testing out the software we already have available to us for our graphic design part of the business. While we have only launched a couple of teaser videos so far, we have begun to receive requests for video editing services. One of those inquiries came from our good friends over at Griffons Lair in PA. They have several raw footage videos that needed some intros, along with other audio and video elements added. This also included creating some teaser videos created from scratch. Some of these have now been posted, including this one showcasing one of their three store locations.

So now, in addition to what the studio will be putting out as we get closer to 2025, you will be able to see more of our work in other places. You can check out Griffons Lair here and their YouTube page here. Keep checking back here and across social media for more information.

Proofs Back... but Changes Needed

The studio received the proof copy of the True Agenda expansion, but the cover is a bit off. While everything turned out fine, the variation is not acceptable, so we have updated the files and sent them back to the printer. While this does not happen often, it is good to get these proof copies, especially since the title is not going to release until November. So, what went wrong, you might ask? Great question.

The files were uploaded without incident about two weeks ago, but the cropping of the cover somehow did not convert properly over to the cover file format. It was missed when everything was looked over, so the fault lies on our end. The printer diligently printed what was sent to them. The fix took less than 40 seconds to correct and the file sent back over. The printer will run it through their process just to ensure nothing changed when we sent the new one and then they will let us know so we can order another proof. This second proof should arrive before the end of October, so still plenty of time before release day.

The rest of the book looks great with no other issues found. We will continue to update progress here, so feel free to check back periodically.

Second One Completed!

We are excited to announce that the final edits for the True Agenda expansion were completed early last week. Today we finished converting art assets and prepping everything for the printer, submitting the files to them less than an hour ago! While the release date is still almost two months away, this gives us ample time to review the proof copies and make any changes. What this also means is that we can move on to the third release for the year.

Work already began on a new release for our 5E Adventures line back in August. Similar to what we offered in 2020 with the Abandoned Temple in the Witch Wood, we have a new adventure being worked on currently. While the launch in 2020 went well, we received mixed reviews for the offering. It allowed us to really take to heart what was commented on and what the studio thought. Reviews and critiques can be a mixed blessing, but we felt that we can look to make some quality-of-life improvements as well as restructure the writing to be of better value to everyone using our scenarios. Writing will begin in earnest this week now that the studio has the time, and we are getting a custom map created as well. Ideally, this one will be out before Christmas with a pay-what-you-format again.

As always, keep checking back here and across social media for continuous updates.

Lunar Cycle Games now on Discord!

Hello once again. As we continue to build up our brand in anticipation for the changes coming in 2025, we have added our own Discord channel. While there is not much to do there yet, we will be building up content and looking for feedback from the community on our tabletop RPGs, both when the new core rules launch, but also with any of our previous titles. Once everyone gets a feel for how the new system will work, then we will solicit feedback on whether or not any of our existing titles would benefit from a system change. All of these things and more can be found here.

Additionally, we have updated our links on the main website landing page to take everyone straight to their site of choice rather than having to dig around in various news articles. With our increased posting, we don’t want anything getting lost as we don’t have a good sense of whether anyone really wants to dig back through our various news posts. This way, each visitor can check out what content they are interested in or might have not seen before. As always, this site will be the main source of information, but we are ensuring that other social media sites are better aligned with major announcements.

YouTube Channel is Live!

That’s right, it’s not a dream. The studio has finally put together an official YouTube channel! This was something that was discussed over the years, but there was either a lack of ideas for content or a lack of time to create content. While our offerings are still small, we did post a video today to drive hype about the upcoming new direction we plan to take for our tabletop RPG line in the future. Here is the link to the video here.

For those of you who have been following our games, we use a skill-driven D20/D6 system and all our major game releases are compatible with each other. This allows for players and game directors to use whatever they want from any of the published games to make some truly unique worlds. Starting next year however, all upcoming games will be released using the new core game rule system. Support will continue for the existing games for the foreseeable future, including the planned release of the last True Agenda expansion this Fall.

We look forward to driving more content to everyone across more social media platforms as we continue to rebrand and revision the studio. Keep checking back for more updates!
