Proofs Are Back!

Great news over the weekend as the proofs for our new game releasing later this month have arrived! Reviewing the copy that we received resulted in everyone being pleased with how the book turned out. Without the need for any changes, it means initial orders have been placed and everything is on track for release day. This also means studio resources are now freed up to begin working on the projects we have in line for the next two years. Even though everything was “complete” back in the middle of October, waiting for the proofs to come back was important to quickly address any last-minute changes or corrections.

So now what? Well, the expansions for both GRID and Primal Spirit are still slated for next year. Work has already begun on both, but now there will be more focus and effort placed into completing them. Additionally, the game design for the 2027 release is ongoing, with modifications to the rules underway and reviewing the initial concepts started last year. If everything goes well, playtesting will begin later next year. Finally, a lot of our focus continues to be in the new Griffons Lair game store location in Staunton, VA. Now that they are in their second month of operation, routines are starting to settle, allowing the studio to balance the work there alongside the plans here. After any November new release, it is usually a slow time for the studio where we can relax, enjoy the holiday season, and be well-rested to hit the ground running in the new year, but not anymore!

Heading to the Printer!

The editing process wrapped up last week on our newest game title! Today we finished the edits and finalized artwork and, once everyone was satisfied, the game was sent off to the printer! While we await their approval and initial proof copy, we get to let out a collective sigh for having completed yet another game. We won’t be resting long though, because we have a full schedule of releases for next year which include the first expansions for both GRID and Primal Spirit!

So what about this game that we have kept pretty quiet for the past year? What can we share at this point? It will, of course, use the D20/D6 system that we have designed for use in all our other games. This game sets itself around an alternate universe setting with a lot of mystery, intrigue, investigation, paranormal events, and a dash of horror for good measure! It will also provide guidelines for solo play! Suited for smaller groups, this RPG will give players a bit more of a sandbox environment to explore their surroundings and decide which side of the law they want to be on or even navigate between both. It is, like all our previous games, compatible with the others allowing for truly unique mash ups across our different sci fi, fantasy, and horror titles.

Summer Wrap Up!

As we get closer to Fall, we have been looking back over everything that happed this Summer. The writing and art have been completed for our new game, and it is now in the editing phase. We are on track to release the game this November. This will be the last game we release with our current D20/D6 system and while we still have some expansions coming next year for the games using this system, we are looking forward to launching a whole new system in the next few years.

What also has been going on is the Virginia location for Griffons Lair has been moving steadily along. The lease was signed last month, and work has been progressing for a month now in getting the store ready for its opening later this month! We have been assisting with this journey directly, not just with design and the build out, but also with helping steer the direction the store will go and what it will bring to the tabletop and wargaming community in Staunton, VA. We have fulfilled the initial order of our game line the store will be carrying on day one and have discussed bringing in the other lines as well as our new releases! It is an exciting time and the partnership between the two businesses has never been stronger!

Trademark Registration Complete!

Received word earlier this week, along with the signed and sealed acknowledgement that the Lunar Cycle Games logo is officially a registered trademark! This had been something that the studio had wanted to do for some time, and we started the process last year knowing it would likely take up to a year to complete. While it was not that long, it still was until almost June when the process was finally finished.

This is just one more step towards our new rebranding and reinventing the business that, while originally slated for this year, has been pushed until our 10-year anniversary in 2027. We made the decision to keep going with our current schedule and wanted to release everything we had planned for this year and next before making drastic changes. In addition, our increased collaboration with Griffons Lair has continued without any indication of slowing down. Several more videos have been created and talks for further projects are happening continually.

Work on our latest game is progressing nicely with the writing almost 80% complete and the artwork in the 60-70% completion range. Still scheduled for a November release, continue to check back here and across social media for further information.

New Season New News!

Winter is finally trying to wrap up and the crazy mixed weather has started! 50s, no - 70s, no - rain, no - wind, no - sunshine! Things are not QUITE as chaotic at the studio, but there is a bit of news worth sharing, so let’s get started! First is that the studio has been diligently working on what will be the last tabletop RPG using the current D20/D6 system that we started with back in 2017. This final game will feature a unique setting and provide rules for solo play! More details will be revealed as we get closer to the release date this Fall. For now, writing is about 40% complete as of this morning. We are still on schedule to finish writing by August with graphic design and digital art underway as well. The covers are complete, but there is still a lot of interior design to finish.

Also continuing on is our video editing and creation, which was a new direction for the studio this past October. We are primarily working with Griffons Lair in PA providing video editing and asset creation for their social media platforms. We also anticipate making more promotional material for the studio as we get closer to our major rebranding in 2027.

Finally, we will be at the upcoming Richmond Open this May, but mostly as a support venture for Griffons Lair, who will be making their first appearance to that convention. This opens the way for more collaborative work and some possible business ventures in the next 12 months which everyone is excited about pursuing. More information will be forthcoming and, if you are attending Richmond Open, look for the Griffons Lair vendor booth while you’re there!

A New Year and More of the Same!

Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the holidays. As the studio staff begins to return to work in this new year, a decision has been made to keep going in the same manner that we have before. A few months ago, we hinted at some major changes coming in 2025. Like what happens too often in life and with plans, things sometimes go differently. This is one of those occasions. So, what does all of this really mean?

For starters, the studio will be releasing a brand-new tabletop RPG as is our custom during an odd numbered year. What has changed is that it will not be the big overhaul in a new game system that we originally were hoping to reveal. The game that will launch this fall will be using the same D20/D6 system that we have used since our first game release in 2017. Compatibility will continue to be a thing, meaning every game can be played with any other game like, for example, True Agenda and Grid, or Chronofields and Primal Spirit. The game coming later this year will be the last using the existing system.

For 2026, we will release our last planned expansions for two other games, Grid and Primal Spirit. These two expansions were already in the works and so we will complete them. Since True Agenda and Chronofields got their final expansions last year, we felt it only right to finish the others. This will then clear the way for the big reveal in 2027. After much deliberation and thought, it felt better to launch the rebrand and new system on the 10-year business anniversary. It also made more sense than trying to release expansions for a previous game system while hyping the new one. In the long run, this will feel more fulfilling and wrap up the old system in a more defined way.

So that’s the three-year plan for the business - a new game this year, two expansions next year, and then a brand-new direction in 2027! Another Release Day!

We are excited to announce that the studio was able to complete and release one more title this year! Our second offering for our 5E Adventures line sees a pay what you want (PDF) adventure, also available in print, for three to five characters of 3rd level available on Drive Thru RPG here. This also can be found on our products page, but only in print format. We were fortunate enough to get the map for this adventure custom designed by Ashtagon!

This wraps up the year for us here at the studio, but that does not mean we are not looking ahead to next year and beyond. We had some exciting announcements planned just after the New Year, but now we might have to reevaluate what we would like to accomplish. Whichever way we end up going, we still have news to share in the coming months. For now, we hope everyone can enjoy the season in your favorite way and have a good start to the coming year. Proofs are Back!

You read that right. We received the proofs today for our last release this year! This one was hinted at previously and everyone at the studio came together to make it work. Our latest 5E adventure will release in the coming days for both PDF and print formats. Like the one we released a few years back, this one will be pay what you want for the PDF copy. We learned a lot from the first one of these the studio created, and the newest one has some changes based on feedback and reviews we received. Resistance Day!

At long last, the fourth, and likely final, full expansion for True Agenda has released both here and over at Drive Thru! Much like the Chronofields expansion the studio released earlier this year, this expansion is a long time coming as we spoke about in previous news blogs. It is nice to finally have it out for everyone to get their hands on and hopefully it was worth the wait! Also, we want to announce Resistance is included in the True Agenda bundle deal that includes all the titles for this game for only $20! Lastly, we also want to remind everyone who might not know that if you check out our YouTube page, the main rulebook for True Agenda in PDF format is available with the coupon there for only one dollar through the rest of 2024!

Proofs Back Round Two!

We received the latest proof today and the issues we had originally spotted on the cover have been fixed. Nothing else was found to be incorrect on the first one so everything is now good to go for the upcoming November release of the fourth full expansion for True Agenda!

In other news, the writing and art for the upcoming 5E Adventure was completed and now the commissioned map to be used has been submitted for review. The editing will begin in the coming week or so and we are still on track for a December release of this pay-what-you-want title.

Work has also been going on with our new game system to be released in 2025. Proofs of some of the custom elements, including the dice, have come back and everyone at the studio is excited to see the progress so far! We are looking to start initial playtesting before the end of this year. While we still are not quite ready for a formal announcement of this game system, we are looking to start the initial teaser reveals in the coming month or so.
